It has been a joy to work on this historical and emotional series of three panels, designed to commemorate the fallen during World War One.

Our brief was as follows -

  • Needed to look modern, rather than a 'replica' of an old-fashoned traditional window
  • The image of the soldier resting on his rifle had to be included
  • The feel of the panel was to show the landscape, and the changes that war did to it
  • Haunting image of a war horse was required
  • Finally, the image of a nurse - the only female lost in the war to be featured on the Church's memorial board.

It took many hours of design work followed by both Chris and Justine both cutitng the glass, sand blasting the various details needed to add depth and texture, and of course lots of skilled painting work.

Once the pieces have been kiln-fired, and all sand blasted areas sealed, the leading process would begin. Panels of this size are tricky to handle, and turning over to solder the reverse side can be a nerve-wracking exercise!

The panels were cememented to add stiffness and strength, and then allowed to dry flat in the studio until the fitting date.

We were honoured and delighted to be invited to the Rededication Ceremony, which took place on May 24th 2016 - our own wedding anniversary date!
